ҹɫÊÓƵ constructed a new natural gas-fired CHP plant. The scope included, site excavation around multiple existing underground utilities and a live duct bank, installing all mechanical and electrical equipment and associated systems, and multiple tie-ins and modifications in the existing boiler plant. The new CHP building with its solar gas turbine and generator, Heat Recovery Steam Generator boiler and absorption chiller, supplies the hospital with 4.6 MW of reliable power.
The project delivery system was design-build, which required the Owner, Engineer, and Construction Team (including over two dozen trade partners), to work collaboratively to achieve safety, quality, schedule, and budget goals. The project site was located in the center of a major urban city resulting in multiple challenges with respect to material and equipment laydown yards, traffic, and congestion on a very small site footprint. Additionally, the project utilized Lean project execution methods, including delivering equipment directly to the crane hook and setting it immediately into the building.
