The existing towers were replaced by two new 240-foot lattice towers and four monopole dead-end structures on an offset centerline and were reconnected back into their respective and existing lines.

Project Details
  • Installed and removed access for the demolition of two lattice towers and several wood structures
  • Erected two 240-foot-tall lattice towers
  • Erected four 75-foot steel monopoles
  • Managed the installation of 12 foundations for a total of six structures
    • Four 8-foot-by-10-foot deep caisson foundations in solid bedrock
    • Eight 5-foot-by-10-foot deep caisson foundations
  • Managed the removal of over 100 vertical feet of rock for foundation installation
  • Managed the installation of two new lattice towers totaling almost 90 tons of steel
  • Self-performed the installation of five spans of 115 kV wire with helicopter assistance and three spans of 34.5 kV wire including:
    • 21,000 feet of conductor
    • 3,200 feet of OPGW
    • 4,000 feet of OHSW
  • Managed environmental efforts including endangered species restrictions
Lean, Innovative and Unique Project Solutions

Challenges the project team encountered on this project include unpredictable Maine winter weather, the logistical coordination between the two work sites (hour-long driving distance), access and terrain due to the topography along the river bank, and completing a majority of the work on the grounds of a fully-functioning private school.
